After the NCAA permitted an extra year of eligibility for any athlete playing during 2020, the transfer portal has risen in popularity. Many players are using their extra year to transfer for graduate school and one more year of collegiate volleyball.
Some of the best players are leaving their programs and heading to new places. Here are the best transfers from this year.
Melanie Parra is an outside hitter who previously played for Texas. She won a national championship with the Longhorns but decided to leave for more playing time.
Now, she is averaging big numbers at TCU and leading them to one of their best program starts. With 4.38 kills per set and 47 service aces, Parra is boasting some of the best stats in the nation for an outside hitter.
Merritt Beason transferred from Florida to Nebraska for her junior season. The opposite attacker is averaging 3.8 kills per set, the highest in her career, and made the All Big Ten first team this season.
The Huskers started the season 27-0, the best start in the nation. With the help of her play, Nebraska earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament.
Mac Podraza is a fifth year setter who started her career at Ohio State. She used her last year of eligibility to transfer to Penn State. She returned at the reigning Big Ten setter of the year.
She is averaging 10.45 assists per set and has played in all 103 sets for the Nittany Lions. Her size and strength make her one of the best setters in the nation.
