It was a tough season for the Florida Gators after what seemed to be their most promising year yet. They started off the season with three wins over top-10 opponents, but were riddled with injuries and difficulties filling the spots of transfers.
They lost a starting setter and reigning AVCA freshman of the year, a stud freshman on the outside, and a fifth-year grad transfer who offered experience and versatility. More on that.
The injuries plagued the team as they already had to fill two huge spots from transfers who left the program. Merritt Beason, now with Nebraska, and Bre Kelley with Pittsburgh played vital roles for the Gators last season.
Florida was down five players before SEC games began. This cost them finishing 10-8 as compared to a 15-3 performance last year and a conference championship.
Florida was never able to capture its true ability this season, leaving fans wondering what the squad will look like in 2024.
Mary Wise has always done well recruiting and uses the transfer portal more than most coaches. They will have a starting setter and outside back as well.
Many lessons were learned this year by the team as they saw their dreams slowly vanish. Next season could be wildly different, everyone will have to wait and see.
